Hello everyone - this item was sold on ebay as a lancaster part, but I don't think it is from a Lanc - looks like an astrodome to me. Here are some of the part numbers on it. They seem a bit North American to me - i'd love to know what other wixers think.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Numbers found ---65-115 86 (86 in a circle)
2/655/117
655-109 14 12 (14 in a circle)

The '65s' seem to be quite prominent

Cheers

Elliott

Its not from a Lanc thats for sure. I hate to see people advertising "lanc" bits when they are nothing at all like lanc, specially on ebay.
If you look close at it you can see that the frame is curved so it would fit on top of a fuselage. Also the so called Bombaimers part he refers to is a optically flat panel of armored glass.

It looks to me like a side blister from a B-29. I've seen a number of them and this certainly looks the part. Too bad there was not a yardstick or something to get a size referance from.

I'd guess 'whitleyproject'
That'd be Elliott Smock, for a guess. Have a look over at the Flypast Forum; he's a regular there, Rob.

The Whitley was a British bomber about as much good as the Martin B-10. Unfortunately the RAF had to go to war in it. A lot of good men died.

The astro isn't from that, I'd say.

Hey folks

I'm 'whitleyproject' - the winning bidder. I bought it as a Lanc part for a trade - early Whitley's didn't even have astrodomes! Thing is, if it's not Lanc, I can't use it.

I wondered if it was from a B-29.

I'll ask the guy for measurements & see what he says.

Elliott,

It looks like it has a double layer of perspex which indicates that it came from a pressurised aircraft, a B-29 search blister fits the bill nicely.

Definately not Lancaster though.

Yup, that's a B-29 blister all right!

A shame it's in that condition...I'll give ya $30 for the frame though! :P

Thanks B-29 gunner - it did kind of smell of B-29. Maybe it came of an RAF Washington - not many USAF B-29 parts in the UK!

I'll let the guy know - he will probably put it back on ebay.

Do you want his email?

Cheers

Elliott
