I've just come across a type F-1 airspeed indicator with the type and serial number for this B-17G written on the back in pencil "B-17G 44-83821". Anyone know any details about this ship? I did a quick check and all I could find was that it was a Douglas-built example, and had had some kind of mishap at Mitchell Field in New York, date unknown. Just curious to know if there is any information out there.

Cheers,
Richard

This is from "The B-17 Flying Fortress Story" by Roger A. Freeman.

44-83821 Delivered Syracuse 6/16/45; 35 Base Unit Bolling Air Staff pool 10/12/45; 110 Base Unit Mitchell 1/9/46; Recl Comp 5/24/46; in USCG 1946 as CB-17

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Mike

Very doubtful this airplane (44-83821) was in the USCG as a CB-17. The Lockheed built B-17G 44-85821 was a PB-1G in the USCG as USCG 77247. I think the numbers got transposed. My records show 44-83821 was reclaimed (scrapped) in May 1946. No further record.
