Horace Crouch, another Doolittle Raider, dies
COLUMBIA, S.C. Horace "Sally" Crouch, a member of the famous Doolittle Raiders that staged a bombing run over Japan during World War II, has died of complications from pneumonia.
Crouch was one of 80 airmen on board 16 B-25 bombers that made the daring daylight raid over Japan in April of 1942.
His death leaves just 16 surviving Raiders.
The raid was to avenge the attack on Pearl Harbor four months earlier.
For his valor, Crouch was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster.
Horace Crouch was 87.
