Messerschmidt in Sacramento?

Spotted this at the California Capital Airshow this past weekend. Possibly a late-war "ersatz" Messerschmidt?

It's a Midget Mustang homebuilt, built in 2011..........

A certain similarity to the SK 257 (Skoda Kauba) might be there....

The swastika on the tail is a bit "un-PC", especially since many real 109s in Europe don't have them.

Not just Europe.
I have picture's of the Condor Squadron T-6's with swastika's on the tails, but they don't have them anymore.

It isn't a matter of "PC" in Europe, in Germany it's against the law: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafgesetzbuch_section_86a

You can see swastikas on planes in France and the UK.

I know it's against the law there...I was saying warbird didn't have them, I didn't address why.

In a recent magazine there was a beautifully restored 109 in Germany that kept the outer arms of the design, so what's left is a unconnected diamond shape. I would guess if it were needed for a film you could connect the segments with tape.

IIRC, some non-German based a.c. lack them for various reasons as do many model kits...at least it's left off the box art, I don't know if you get the decals inside (rather life the Confederate flag decal in "Dukes of Hazzard" Charger kits).

It's so they can avoid any unnecessary tangling with the law. In museums (like the Luftwaffe Museum), they have the full swastika as it's a historical purpose, not a political purpose.

Indeed, it's left off the box for the same reason it's left off the planes - lest someone confuse them for making some sort of illegal political statement. The decals are in bits (usually two or four pieces) that you can put together into a swastika if you so desire.

Check the top of this page, The topic of this thread is the homebuilt with the ersatz Luftwaffe scheme.
That's what I was referring to, not the German law or an authentic German aircraft.

And, IMHO, putting a swastika on anything not made in period, is un-PC.
NOTE, again, that I didn't say it was good or bad, just in-PC.

I'd say the same if some biker gang painted a motorbike with the design, or more innocently, someone painted a 1970s VW "Thing" in wartime Kubelwagon markings.
