Warbird Information Exchange

I need to locate a source of anti-chafe material for a set of Marman stainless T-Bolt straps. The old material looks like it was rubber impregnated cork. The straps are 5/8” wide.

Could someone point me to a source?

Also, after Googling today and talking to a few reps, no one seems to know what happened to the Marman company.

Yup, rubber is what I need.

Spruce has material for 1" fuel tank straps, but it’s too wide.

Eric, try Jim Duvall at ISP. His email is jduvall@isp.com. They make a similar red high heat silcone grommet for the J52 engine. Looks like it might be a close substitute, same application. Bet you could give Jim the dimensions of the strip you have and he could check his piece. Ask for p/n 693845.

That looks like a "purpose made" type of rubber material that is fitted for the specific clamp/strap, like Adel clamps come with. I know there is a Teflon type tape that may work (no not the kind you use on fittings) however it won't look authenic for your application. See if you can get in touch with John Lane or maby Nelsen Ezell, those guys can steer you in the right direction.

I would call spruce and tell them your situation . They probably just stock the common stuff and can get the special stuff on request. Robbie your not talking about the red silicone tape used to wrap wire bundles are you?

We sometimes carefully cut out the center to the proper width and reglued the mat'l so it will fit a more narrow strap.

I have seen that done to! You just don't have the lip wraping the clamp.. We would glue it the same you would a deice prop. Wipe the clamp surface to clean it and the rubber with MEK and let it dry. Paint the matting surfaces with 3m 1300L and let it dry. then wipe the applied 1300L with mek to activate it and mate the two surfaces and let it dry. It takes alot to get it off.

Sorry for taking so long in getting back about this.

The product we have is supplied by a local engineering firm, and as you mentioned is essentially a rubber impregnated cork (corking with little black bits through it). The product is non release noted, not sure if that is a problem, and comes in several thicknesses.

It is the weekend here but I can try and find the name of the product or a supplier for you, or may be able to on supply for you from this company.
I am in New Zealand so not sure how things will work but the manufacturer may be a little closer to home for you.
