I came across this F-100 displayed on a short concrete pedestal in the tiny town of Fessenden, North Dakota. Anyone who's traveled across the backroads of North Dakota knows that it's dominated by vast farmland, punctuated by little "one stop sign" towns seemingly on the verge of abandonment.
Fessenden is one of the only towns with a commercial gas station between Devil's Lake and Bismark (almost a three hour journey). It's also home to this somewhat surreal display of an F-100 in its little town park. The display stands just above eye level, and the easy access apparently allowed one of the locals to access and subsequently smash the canopy.
For some reason, the F-100 appeared substantially smaller to me when viewed at this level. I always thought it was much bigger than the F-86, but I would now guess they are very near the same size. It's a very attractive design!
