DUXFORD TO HOST CHARITY FUNDRAISING EVENT
The Imperial War Museum Duxford will be hosting a fundraising event for the Faces from the Blue charity calendar project on Saturday 28 January 2006.
Faces from the Blue 2006 was the brainchild of Sarah Pepper, Air Display Co-ordinator for the Duxford-based company, Historic Aircraft Collection. Sarah joined forces with aviation photographer Jon Johnston to produce the first calendar of its kind to focus on current Warbird pilots in order to raise money for and awareness of two worthy charities; The Hanna Surgical Research Fellowship and The Flying Scholarship for the Disabled (FSD). The pilots featured are all based at the Imperial War Museum Duxford and include John Romain, Pete Kynsey, Anna Walker, Carolyn Grace, Lee Proudfoot and the late Ray Hanna.
On Saturday 28 January, at 2.15pm, cheques will be presented to each of the beneficiaries for the money that has been raised so far by the project. Calendars will be available for the public to purchase from 1pm on the day at the special price of £10, with the opportunity to meet some of the featured pilots who will be present for the presentation. The few remaining limited edition copies of the calendar, signed by all of the featured pilots, will also be available to purchase on the day.
Duxford is just south of Cambridge at junction 10 of the M11. Ample free parking is available. For more details about Duxford please visit the website at

The Royal International Tattoo inaugurated The Flying Scholarship for the Disabled (FSD) in 1982 as a living memorial to the indomitable spirit of Group Captain Douglas Bader who lost both his legs in an air accident, resumed his flying career and went on to achieve fame in the Second World War as a fighter pilot. The charity is dedicated to helping disabled people discover their true potential through the mental and physical stimulation of learning to fly light aircraft.
The Hanna Surgical Research Fellowship funds research at the Blond McIndoe Centre. This was established in 1961 having been spearheaded by Sir Archibald McIndoe, the famous plastic surgeon who did so much for badly burned aircrews of the Second World War. Mark Hanna himself was a well-known Duxford-based display pilot who died tragically in 1999 following an aeroplane accident. He never recovered from severe burns and the fellowship was established as a fitting tribute to this accomplished pilot so that his name and memory will live on to benefit others.
