Hello,

Robin and I will probably rent a car and drive from Toulouse to Bayonne in the next week or two. Or at least we're thinking about it.

If we get tired of castles and vineyards, any flying going on? Collections?

Thanks,

Dave

Take a look at Ailes Anciennes at Toulouse-Blagnac: awesome collection and some great restorations going on. Next door is the Aeroscopia Museum which boasts two Concordes (one indoor, one outside!), among a small but very interesting museum of exhibits. The latter is aimed more at the family, while AA is for the real enthusiast! Plus it's directly opposite the A380 assembly line and if you pick the right moment you may catch a part-built superjumbo as they transfer it from one part of the line to the next.

Dave, in Toulouse area, can I suggest you to visit the Aeroscopia museum: http://musee-aeroscopia.fr/en

Also, if you're interested by modern stuff, you can visit the AIRBUS factories: http://www.manatour.fr/en/aviation-tour ... sit-airbus

Also near Toulouse, you can also try to visit http://www.replicair.fr/ - they are currently building 2 D.551's.

Near Bayonne, you've the helicopter museum at Dax: http://www.museehelico-alat.com/ (the website is down).

Further in the north but not in your area, at Arcachon, you can find Bernard Chabbert and his Lockheed 12: http://stearman-passion.blogspot.fr/
Also in Bordeaux, the CAEA museum: http://caea.info/index.php?lang=fr (sorry, I can't find the page in English).

I hope it helps a bit, thanks,
Ben

In fact, Antoine Chabbert (son of Bernard) is operating a Stearman offering rides above the "Bassin d'Arcachon". (In my dream list one day :D)

The CAEA collection is very interesting but public access is very limited for the moment as it is on an airbase. You'll have to contact them beforehand if you want to visit.
