I've been forced to attend the NCO Academy at Robbins AFB in Macon, Georgia. Unless I get thrown out, I'll be there until the first of April.

Other than the air museum at the base, does anybody have any suggestions of other stuff to see? At least one weekend will be taken up by a visit from a Canadian girl, but I'm pretty much free the rest of the time and don't really fancy driving back to Charleston.

Dang, wish I'd known. I was in Macon yesterday for the gun show. Why don't you roll on down to Valdosta and we can go visit Liberty Belle.

Hey Brad, Check out the local CAF wing just south of Atlanta. The Dixie wing is down at Peachtree City. See if Jake Tryon is there, local wing leader....... Watch out for Jake, he will have you signing up to join before you know what hit ya'. He is a great guy, just saw him Saturday at Winter Conference at Midland, Tx. The Dixie wing has the SBD, P-51D Rednose, C-45, replica Kate and Zero, T-6's, and are restoring a P-63 Kingcobra, N-191H. Alan Brooks

Also the old scrap yard at Macon is interesting if you can still get in, plus lookup John Neel (Low Pass Inc) down at Griffin, Ga. He is a great guy and has had some very interesting projects over the years....... Great metal work.... One last item, I don't know if Tom Wilson's shop is still open, but they were also building a great many P-40 items. I think they were in Griffin, but in town, not at the airport...

The Army Aviation Heritage Society is in the Atlanta area. They have Hueys, Cobras, C-7, etc. Bunch of real good guys, all Army types some still flying reserve. Ask for Mike Brady or Skip Lam.

Hello Brad & welcome to "The Peach State". I don't really have any thing to add for suggestions other than what is allready covered. However I second Alan's reccomendation about a visit to Falcon Field, Peachtree City to check out The Dixie Wing. They are a fine bunch of folks. :)
Regards
Robbie

Calhoun, GA. Right off I-75 there was the Mercer Air Field with a good collection of stuff a few years back.

The fellow who started it owned a trucking company that specialized in wide load hauls and he had a buddy who was a retired General. So that and a 501(c)3 meant a nice little collection going.

I’m not sure if it’s still around.

There is no truth to the rumor that if you drive past Snyder High School they will throw a diploma in your window! You have to stop first......

Randy & Brad,

Liberty Belle should be headed to Douglas today weather permitting. They want to spend a week or so getting it ready for this year's tour. Mike and I are headed down there, should be there some time (probably late) Saturday.

Chuck

I will take care of the girl from Canada so you can go look at planes that weekend too. Anything for a friend!

You can take the scenic route back home to SC April 1&2 and catch the Spring warbird fly-in at the museum. Besides the museum aircraft (two P-47's, TBM, F-86, T-33's, Migs, etc. ), scheduled aircraft to attend include two P-51's, B-25, A-26, F4F-3, AD-1, and an assortment of trainers. Most of the planes do fly-bys throughtout each day. The spring fly-in is the best as planes stop by on their way to Sun-n-Fun.
