I attended the airshow on Sunday, March 13 with my dad and my 8 year old son in tow.

Flightline attendance was unfortunately down again this year, with WWII warbirds being the minority. I didn't keep a detailed list of attending aircraft this year, maybe somebody else can post that information.

I had a good time, and couldn't have asked for better weather. I am wondering however what is going on behind the scenes, as every year the warbird turnout is lower and lower.

Here are some of the better shots I was able to get...

What happened to the great, old "TiCo Warbird Airshows" that ruled during the 80s?!

The show may not have been great but the pics are quite nice, thanks for sharing. Nice to see some new paint on the Yak-7U. I notice the name "Night Witch", is this airplane associated with Holbrook Maslen in some way or is it just coincidence?

Randy I was thinking the exact same thing when I was looking at the pics!!! Then I had seen your post. Back then it was a no-brainer for the warbird guys to hit TICO then head to lakeland. I remember LOTS of mustangs!!!! Some where I need to find my old pics!!! Dad was a member of the VAC for a long time until the split and WOW emerged. I remember standing next to the gear of the Guardian that showed up one yr. Some where I have the pics.........I will do some digging.

AHH the good ole days.

Tom,

Thanks again this year for your photos from TICO.

This was the first place I saw Joe Tobul and his Corsair.
A regular I did not see in your photos this year was Jack Footes Wildcat?

Thanks,
Bill

Tom,

You must have been at the same place, snapping away, as my wife and I on Saturday. We have the same shots.

Matt

Dick Foote's Wildcat was not there. 2 Mustangs, 1 B-25, 1 F-86, about 10 T-6s and a few T-28s were on the field. Warbird attendance was extremely low. No pyro this year, the Mustang only flew during the Heritage flight and driving into the field to park was horrible.

You are right, TICO / VAC should place the airshow on the Sun-n-Fun opening weekend just like it was and with maybe alittle incentive for the owners. We also have to remember that alot of big contributors and aircraft are retired or gone.

George Baker, Harry Doan, Wiley Sanders, David Brady, Randell Porter and on.

The good news is Kevin Quinlan is back MCing the Friday night auction which is a great fund raiser for the VAC and people like Loydd Morris, Ken Terry and many others are trying to bring it back to that 80's airshow.
