During the 2002 Reno Air Races, Bill ‘Tiger’ Destefani in Race 7 ‘Strega’ had a
major backfire while crossing home pylon during his qualification run, the ensuing
backfire blew the induction trunk, and bottom cowling off the air frame in
spectacular fashion!!

Yes and actually ran very well. They had a semi-race engine done up by Shanholtzer and on Sunday Hisey got by Sawbones the 3350 Fury with ease. He said they didn’t even push the engine very hard and had a 410 average.
