Thanks for posting, great photos. Looks like they took her out for a joy ride!

Interesting how engine flip down work platforms were incorporated into the leading edge. Neat.

Arguably the best "boat" of the war....

It'd be interesting to be the tailgunner during those takeoff runs, just before the boat got up on plane...

The last 6 photos were taken during testing at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland in 1946. It made a couple of test flights but testing in the air was curtailed due to multiple engine failure. The hydrodynamic testing of the planing hull (on the water)went on and I've seen a report somewhere of the high praise the engineers had for the Emily's hull design due to the use of wave suppression strakes under the nose of the hull.

I've read the same claim.
I think it was in reference to hydrodynamics or hull design, not operational success.

Alsi, IIRC, other flying boats had similar gold down maintenance platforms.

Certainly a feature of the large Short flying boats.
