Yokaren Peace Museum - Tsuchiura, Japan

Mon Oct 21, 2019 4:47 pm

The latest installment of my Japan Adventures took me about 1.5 hours NE of Tokyo to the Yokaren Peace Memorial Museum in Tsuchiura. I had seen photos of a Zero on display there that intrigued me as it wasn't listed as a survivor and I couldn't track down any info. The museum is beautifully presented - all in Japanese and allowing NO photos inside. The outdoor hangar with the Zero REPLICA allows photos. I documented the sign with photos of the construction process of the replica/model as it's pretty interesting.

Also part of the museum - The Yūshōkan - is located nearby on a chunk of JGSDF Camp Tscuchiura and I've included it here as well. This museum is more of a overall war museum whereas the Yokaren focuses mainly on the Aerial Kamikaze Training that took place in Tsuchiura. Many interesting artifacts are displayed and I particularly enjoyed the large collection of beautifully built models of WWII aircraft.
