Just got back from a trip out west to Southern California to visit my fiance's family. Was able to 'swing' in a few stops at the spots listed. Always an amazing time at these wonderful museums. Lot's of work going on at POF, great collection at Yanks, and always a surprise or two at Camarillo. I'll post more later, but here's a little bit to start from Planes of Fame.

How about POF 's B-17? I'd love to see how nthat is looking with a new coat of paint. Any word on how the fund drive is coming to get it back into the air?

TIm

Edit
I think the "A-36" pictures are really of the P-51A that POF has. I could be wrong but ...

Nice pics, would love to see more. In regards to the Mustang, yes, that is the P-51A, it's been in that British paint scheme for a while now. Last pics I saw of the A-36 from a member on here, it was complete stripped down to the bare fuselage for a complete rebuild. I'd love to know how the rebuild is coming along.

Waltz41,

Any idea on what the scheme on the Seversky will be? At FOF I got a close up look at Kermit's P-35. On a panel there was a builders plate stamped "Seversky Aircraft DATE: 3-40"

I fly out of Republic Airport in Farmingdale LI regularly and used to work there. The only remaining building of the Seversky/Republic plant is the original factory building that dates to the 20's. I'd be certain that both of these planes were born in that building.

It's very derelect and I'm not sure if it hasn't been demolished yet b/c of historical value or contamination. Probly the latter.

Pete

Brian,

Thanks for the pics from POF!
Your new camera looks like it works very well.
Looking forward to more photos.

B-17 is in the nude right now (bare metal). Seversky should have an interesting physical change in appearance by airshow time. As you can see the P-26 has a new paint scheme as well.

ok guys, here's some more. as far as everything else goes:
-do not know about the b-17 fund drive, but it's just sitting out front stripped. , check the photos.
-probably my mistake on the p-51a / a-36 confusion, couldn't get close to it, and didn't recognize it that well. i just assumed that it was a-36 because i never saw the a model of theirs before and kept hearing about the a-36 being ready to go for the air show....but i didn't see it around...so who knows.
-no ideas of the paint scheme at all for the seversky

Shot this with zoom across the way...pretty sure it's a P-38 in the hanger, and a B-25 outside as well (not in the picture)

Here's the A-36 as it looked about a month ago..

Image

and also the Seversky before she was covered up for painting..

Image

The Zero belongs to Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection. I was told it had been disassembled ready for painting and will then be ready for test flying.

Also, here's a closer view of the B-25's over at Aero Trader..

They have another B-25 in the back of the hanger which is being worked on for FHC

I can't believe after so many year's of viewing I've finally posted (and had to register to do so :D )

What will Mr. Allen's Zero have for an engine? Does anyone know?

Thanks for all the pictures, Chino has to be one of the greatest places on the face of this planet. I can think of a few more but this thread is about Chino. :D

Thanks so much for posting those! 8)

I am thrilled to see the Seversky and P-26 getting some attention.

Until recently I thought the only surviving P-35 (or member of the P-35 family) was at the MUSAF.

Doesn't Weeks have a P-35 or AT-12 as well?
