These photos show the UK Cowley, Oxford Aircraft Dump 1940. Artist Paul Nash took these photos as studies for his painting Totes Meer (Dead Sea).

Below a few observations from folks much smarter than I concerning Luftwaffe aircraft and units during the BofB.

"Black 1 is Oblt.Viktor Mölders 2./JG51 shot down 07.10.1940."

"<I-+- is Geschwaderstab JG53 Hauptmann Wilhelm Meyerweissflog shot down 05.09.1940."

A very interesting selection of pics, thanks for sharing. Looking at the very first photo, I'm wondering what type of aircraft would have used the diagonal Warren Truss-like wing rib arrangement??

The Hawker Hurricane Mk 1 (Fabric wing) was like that, but that wing shows no sign of guns being fitted.

It a good game trying to recognise the aircraft types from that wreckage. The fuselages are easy and there is an awful lot of Wellington in the North African pile, but recognising a Do 17 from a tailwheel and a Ju 88 from its ball joint wing root fittings is just showing off.

And if they only knew the value some of that stuff would be 60 or so years later. Such a waste of some of it.
