Same as the PA-48 the NMUSAF is offering this airplane for exchange.

It is similarly advertised as not suitable for flight...

Yes it was, and don't call me Shirley :lol: .
IIRC this was flown in to the museum in the late '80s (after the one they were supposed to get, 48-634, cracked up during the ferry flight), so maybe it could be put back in the air again? Has the Castle museum looked into it?

A bunch of them went into civilian hands post-USAF service; like the other survivor at Pima; anyone have photos?

The YC-125 in question is now located at Wright-Patterson AFB. The aircraft was formerly located in Zacateas Mexico. It was purchased by Asher Ward and Daryl Greenameyer after they crashed a YC 125 in route to the Air Force Museum for a trade deal. The aircraft was disassembled and transported to Rockford, IL for paint work and etc. Later transported by truck to Wright-Patterson.
I know this to be true because I almost bought the aircraft while it was in Zacateas. Small problem. I was told that the aircraft was a FORD Trimotor with the engines removed. Nice flight to Zacatecas for nothing but a good steak dinner. I tried to sell the aircraft to the Air Force Museum but they told me they were getting one from Asher and Daryl. After their ill-fated flight, I tried to sell the aircraft to Asher but he was in Mexico purchasing my aircraft. (actually I never owned the aircraft, I was just trying to sell it before buying it) Asher made the purchase and the rest is history.

Sometimes timing is everything. Twenty years ago the guy in Minnesota that collected tri-motors would’ve paid a fortune. Ironically, he also never bought a JU-52. Meanwhile they’re for sale with Platinum Fighter Sales.

It’s going to be interesting to see where it ends up. It wasn’t an important aircraft in the U.S. military.

Just dumb! If it served in the Air Force, the plane should be in the museum! Its not like we are building a variety of aircraft types these days compared to the 1940s - 60s.

The Piper Enforcer now, that is understandable. It does belong in an aviation museum somewhere.

And a few of the YC-125s were scrapped in the Southeast, per Forgotten Field - that's apparently how he and a few other collectors ended up with several of the control column/rudder pedal units (which at the time no one could identify).

Well, if the NMUSAF is done with them, I'd think the Enforcer would be at home in Pima and the Raider would be a good fit at either Dover or Castle - any other suggestions?
