just how good are the computer graphics for flying warbirds these days? do they look real or is it still kinda bogus?? with a 100 million dollar budget maybe mr. richpocket will buck up to get a couple of planes back in the air ?? also, i read in the final cut that a b17 was destroyed during the filming of the 1990 memphis belle movie. any one got any info on this??? thanks sim.

It was B-17G-100VE 44-85643, F-BEEA that crashed on take off at former RAF Binbrook.
For the Memphis Belle movie she flew as DF-U, 124292 'Baby Ruth', DP-H, 121292 and DF-Q, 124232.

The History Channel did a program on Aircraft Dog Fights, from World War One to Viet Nam.

The graphics in this program, except for some problems with the World War One SPAD, were outstanding and showed what can be done, when knowledge and imagination are used for a common goal.

I particularly liked the Bud Anderson P-51/Bf 109 sequence. This sequence had good lighting on the aircraft at all times, good wear/usage on the aircraft, very good background graphics and conveyed the feel of the fight in an overall excellant way.

The whole program is well worth watching more than once.

Tim, I agree, excellent work. The one with the Mossies was sooooo good. I have a dial-up and had to download some of the bigger files after I went to bed since it took so long, but was well worth it. And seeing the Japanese birds is outstanding!!!! Everyone needs to check them all out!

tim, all i can say is wow!!! i watched the clip with the merlins and man was i ever impressed!! it almost looks better than the real thing if thats possible. how the heck do they do that??> thanks for the link!! sim

In other words, it can be done. Let's just hope that they do it.

My TIVO recorded it for me, watched it yesterday and I must say it was great. I loved the step by step break down of each dogfight.

Same here. Watched it for the umpteenth time, drooled over the B model Old Crow (which Roush should have in the air at some point soon), and cringed at some of the cheese in the narration.

Great program. Wish the graphics were a bit tighter. Guess i've been spoiled by too much Star Wars / LoTR. 2nd rate computer graphics (like those in the 2nd Matrix "burly brawl" sequence) get kinda irritating now. But then I'm sure the budget dictated alot about what things would look like.
