I am trying to figure out the squadron these colorful state side Wildcats would have belonged to for a display in the museum. I believe the cowling is white and red striped. On back: "Flight #251 N.A.S. Sanford, FL" From the personal collection of Matt Stankiewicz.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Sadly, I have zero time to dig this week.

This link suggests that the first unit to begin fighter training at NAS Sanford was VF-OTU #6

Hope it helps!

(Plus one more Sanford training pic...)

Chris,

You might try contacting the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum.
http://www.delandnavalairmuseum.org
It's a small museum located a little north of Sanford.

The Florida Wing of the CAF is also in DeLand.
