RickH sent me these pictures to post from when the F-4 and S-2 were moved from Hobby Airport over to Ellington Field in Houston.

Here’s a few more:

I hauled the tailcone to our original A-26 down to Uvalde in the back of my truck. We were contacted by SW Airlines to move an RF-4 that had been a display piece for the school district that served Bergstrom AFB in Austin after they heard we had some experttise in that area. The new schools were built about 7 miles down the main state hwy to Austin. We did that one on Sunday also. Traffic was backed up the whole 7 miles by the time we turned off the HWY.

Found a few pictures, just not any actually on the road.

When I was with the Az wing of the CAF, we towed a TBM from Falcon Field to Metrocenter Mall in north Phoenix. We folded the wings, and put the tail on a flat bed wrecker and towed it there for a display and back after. This is the TBM that wore number 82 and was seen in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It is now based in Colorado. I have a photo I can scan if someone can post it for me

When I worked at Space Camp, the Navy flew a F-14 into the Redstone Arsenal Army Airfield, and then it was towed several miles to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center via I-565. I might have photos around somewhere.

Following the example set by Steve Dennis, I moved my PT-19 project from Overland Park, KS to Houston, TX, using a 20' boat trailer. No problems whatsoever, no cars lined behind mine.

Only thing to remark was being stopped by a very nice Oklahoma State Trooper, who wanted to know what kind of airplane it was, and we had a friendly chat at 0300 : )

Even before I moved the PT-19 though, I had already helped move a BT-13 between Pearland and Arcola, TX. It took us two trips to move everything, with the heavier items in a trailer, while I carried most of the components in my old Chevy Blazer. The BT-13 was crated, and eventually sent to Argentina, where now it is part of the Navy's Aviation Museum.

Saludos,

Tulio

I moved a B-25 down the back roads of Alabama, from the old Wheellas Field southwest of Dothan to Blackwell Field in Ozark. Does that count?

Eric...

Would that not now be the Rocky Mountain wing's TBM #309 as seen here when I photographed it over Aspen a number of years ago? Based in Grand Junction, CO nowadays with occasional visits to Denver and so on...

Probably, but Matt would know for certain. Nice shot!
