By now some of you may have seen the cover of this months Aeroplane with the Shuttleworth Avro Tutor on the cover. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to fly on the same air to air sortie.
While Richard Paver was flown by John Turner in the Shuttleworth Magister I was flown in the Chipmunk by George Ellis.
The weather was awful! Whoever ordered the weather for the day forgot to ask for the lights to be turned on. It was dark when Richard and John launched and it was probably a bit darker when George and I took off. The cloudbase was 800 ft and we appeared to be pretty close to it most of the time.
Enough excuses, Frank Chapman did a superb job of putting the Tutor exactly where I wanted it and George worked miracles in finding what little light there was.
It was fun!
Finally, a very big thank you to everyone who helped to make these photos possible. I really appreciate the opportunity.
