Has anyone seen or heard of a Heritage Flight with a B-17 and B-52 ????

As i sit here at my desk, I just received a phone call from Barksdale AFB. I was advised that Thunderbird and a B-52 were doing formation Heritage Flights. To my knowledge I dont believe this has been done before??? :prayer:

Hopefully I can get some pics! Stay tuned!

Elroy they tried to do it with Texas Raider about 12-15 years ago. The B-52 was at EFD and departing from WOH. Problems developed and it never happened, unfortunately.

This could be a first in front of the public.

Well that stinks. That's my hometown and I'm stuck all the way up here in Montana. I was supposed to be at that show!

Interesting B-17 - note the color scheme on the fuselage and tail, as well as the odd antenna under its nose - was this a QB-17G drone?

We were going to have a flight with FIFI, Thunderbird, and a B-52 at Barksdale. However, since FIFI crapped out on us, I guess the "Fortress Flight" was just left with the two airplanes. We were big time disappointed we couldn't be part of it, but still hope to be involved someday. Hopefully, the Lonestar guys had a great time flying with the Buff.

Trae - I think your Dad is on his way home with some good pics he took from inside of T-Bird on Saturday. It looked F----Ing AWESOME from the ground and I took a whole bunch photos but since I am still living in teh 90's it may take a day or two to get them developed. The B52 was figting to stay with it but they managed to pull it off 3 days in a row without a problem.

We also did a photo flight on Friday with Yellow Rose as the camera ship and I heard they got some really great shots. Unfortunatly, since I was crew chiefing that flight I didn't get any shots myself but the Air Force guys were talking about releasing a whole bunch of them in a few days on the internet.

Gumby also did a heritage in the P47 along with Gunfigther, an F16 and an F4 Phanton that was really fabulouse on Saturday

I will post my shots as soon as I can

Steve

From the af.mil webpage:

Quote:
A B-17G Flying Fortress and a B-52H Stratofortress fly in a heritage flight formation May 13 during the 2006 Defenders of Liberty Airshow at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. These two aircraft represent 70 years of "fortresses." It was the first time in 50 years that they flew together in formation.
