It was in Warbird Digest a few issues ago, and the owners said that they have at least 3 years of work to do before completion.

Were there any photos with that artcile in Warbird Digest? Is this being restored as static or flyable?

Thanks

They are restoring the P-82 to fly, and there are photos with the article(some of the first I have seen in quite some time). The article is in WD #4.

Has any news been released about the CAF's P-82? Word was that some was coming.

I don't want to get flamed for this, but here goes. TimAPNY asked the question about the CAF P-82 and its status. I asked this same question several months ago on a couple of forums, and have never received an answer.
Is there something super secret about this aircraft? What if I wanted to contribute some money to its resotration? I have read replies that sounded like they came out of a kindergarten playground, something like, "I know, but can't say anything now." We all come to this forum, and others, to find out about these old planes and many of us to help out if we can in their care and restoration.
I have personally contributed money every year for the past 30 years to the CAF, but at times I wonder why I keep doing it. I would like to see a P-82 in the air, but the CAF treats the P-82 like some national secret and to just give them money, it is none of your business what we do with it.
As I have said I have contributed money to many air museums, projects etc, but now think that the money I send to the CAF would best be sent somewhere else where at least I can see progress or know where it goes to.
Does the CAF even still own it, or did they lose it and are too ashamed to tell all their members or supporters?
Thus endeth my rant.

The story on the P82 really has been covered quite extensively on this forum. :? Click on the search feature above and see if that helps in digging up alittle more info on the history of the CAF P82 the last couple of years. The other P82 has been covered in Warbird Digest and Air Classics recently. The CAF machine has been awaiting funding for quite awhile now... so with the recent news of a sponsor coming forward it has now gained some media attention. :D Also note that we may not get all the details right away because the sponsorship and restoration details dont develop as fast as the internet news spreads. 8) Hang in there... when plans firm up someone will post the details.

X-rayist. Sorry if you did not get a timely answer. The answer is "It's poker time". Whose attorney's are better. First to blink loses. On money to the CAF, this is my understanding. If one contributes money for a specific airplane, under Texas law, the funds must go to that aircrafts account. I believe that for non-profits in Texas, the laws are very specific about where, how specified contributed monies are used. Any attornies or general staffers out there to help clarify? Also, remember the CAF has four distinct operating branches, each with its own mission and responsibility. Make sure you specify where you want your money to go. Alan

About 10 years ago (or more) there was an article in Air Classics (I think) about an F-82 that was recently uncovered in a junk/salvage yard somewhere here in the states. It was "buried" under the junk as I recall. There was a pic of it once it was uncovered. Painted black, very scraped up though.

Any idea what happened to this airframe?

Charlie
