Is there any P-40 fans here?

The P-40 is my all time favorite plane! My main interest is P-40's used in the Pacific war and pre-WWII use by the Army Air Corps. Heck, I am just a sucker for the great pursuit plane, the P-40!

Uhhmmm, no. No P-40 fans here. Not at all. P-51's and B-17's, thats it. No P-40's at all. Not welcome around here.

I cant stand it when they paint those Shark teeth on P-40's. It looks awful

I am a big P-40 fan. Especially the B/C's (Now if I could ever see one in person...)

Listen not to this lot.

Down here in Oz we love our P-40s ... heaven knows for a time in 1942 they were pretty much all we had swat Zeros with.

We've got two flyers now, P-40N VH-KTI (42-105915) at Wangaratta, P-40E VH-KTY (19128 according to the civil register?) at Scone and there's hope for a third, but there seems some confusion over the future of Alan Arthur's P-40N, last seen at Wanaka in NZ. Supposed to be coming to Oz, so here's hoping.

We've also got Judy Pay's ultra-rare P-40F VH-HWK (41-14112) that's under restoration to airworthy and a swag of static models.

The sound of a Merlin is definitely the sweetest sound in the warbird world, but I've never seen anyone cringe at the sound of an Allison.

Question without notice to all. Col Pay has painted VH-KTY in the scheme of Bobby Gibbes 3 Sqn RAAF CV-V. Temora are running their Mk VIII Spitfire in Bobby Gibbes 457 Sqn RAAF RG-V scheme. Is there any parallel where a pilot has had two warbirds painted to represent his former aircraft in the air at the same time?

We love our P-40's in Idaho as well!

Any idea if the Curtiss factory where they built the P-40's is still around in NY? I would guess it is long gone, but I figured I'd ask

I google'd it and it seems Curtiss moved out in 46 and sold the building to Westinghouse...

There are still some Curtiss buildings located around the area, but the main plant where the P-40s and C-46s were constructed was demolished about 10 years ago. It remained as Westinghouse until they knocked it down to make way for runway expansion and a new terminal at the Buffalo Airport.

Now everybody knows you have to have an AIR COOLED RADIAL out front to make it a REAL airplane!!!!! Just kidding, those Allison's and Merlin’s sound good, I have a fondness for the Warhawk as well.

All those P-40 haters out there, I have a question. If you've never had the privelege to ride in either a P-40, Mustang, or any warbird, and you were suddenly offered a ride in a P-40, you're saying you would turn that offer down? Might change your outlook after that ride!

I wouldn't turn my nose away from any warbird ride, no matter how it looks, what kind of nose art it has, what it sounded like, or if it was an inline or roundy!
