Maybe in a few years we'll see another Heritage Flight featuring the Lightning and the Lightning II.

Man...and I was really holding out for "Whipper Snapper" oh well maybe next time.

On a more serious note. I did overhear a few aerospace engineers saying that they think this will be the last piloted fighter aircraft made. Eluding to upcoming UAV technology. My personal opinion is, the human brain, eyes and ears are still more advanced than any UAV tech on the board, but only time will tell.

That was their whole point. The F-35 with planned upgrades and extension programs will be in service for the next 30 to 40 years before it needs to be replaced. By that time UAV tech will be considerably more advanced than it is now. So for those engineers to say that the F-35 might be the last manned Fighter might not be too far fetched.

The Military as a whole is trying to stretch their aircraft's life spans. It was stated that the AH-1 will continue to be the Marines primary attack helo for the next 25 years and then added onto the end of that statement was that it would most likely be superseeded by UAVs. The USAF has reported that it plans to get another 40 years of life out of their C-5 Galaxy fleet aswell as another 40 years out of the remainder of the B-52 fleet. But by that time I do believe that you'll see the next generation of bombers as being unmanned.

Not as far off as you might think
