Here's a cool shot of Lt Fred Rockmaker in the cockpit of his F-51D Mustang. Fred, along with his friends from the39th FIS was amazed (and delighted) at his surviving this crash. Any guesses in figuring out what happened?

Cool shot... and looks like he was very lucky to survive indeed. Did he blow himself up with hung ordnance on landing? I've seen a WWII P-47 after just such an incident, and the damage looked very similar. Thanks for posting, as ever!
