Thought you'd all would like this shot of CAF pilots posing by a P-43A after checking out in them in the spring of 1942.
These fighter were ferried to China by AVG pilots I believe. Over to the experts........

Keep those old pictures of the Confederate Air Force early days coming. A good looking bunch of South Texas good old boys if I ever saw one. Actually "Tex Hill describes in his book going to India or somewhere to pick up the Lancers. History kind of foregot that the AVG flew anything other than the Hawks.

Robert Scott wrote of borrowing a P-43 and flying it over the Himalayas. He liked it because it climbed easy and could stay high because of the turbocharger.

Yeah I think we had fun with this one, how cool it would be for a Lancer to pop up over there. If one was ever to be found that would be the place. Although I heard old wives tales of one in the San Antonio area after the war and supposedly survived. Keep looking in them old barns and junkyards. Stuff is still out there.

Wayne, a P-43 being re-discovered (especially in Texas) would really be an interesting find. I always thought the P-43 was a fine looking bird. Seversky was really ahead of traditional AAC thinking at the time. Alan

Anybody ever here a story about a guy who was so tired of being stuck at Matagorda AFB that he stole a plane, landed in some farmers field and stashed the plane in a barn ?
