Here are a couple of pics of Vampires from the 1960s. I didn't have too much trouble digging up the IDs of these, and I'm sure you won't either. But maybe you'll enjoy the pictures.

That's right, the B-25 is the famous Tallmantz camera ship, now Pacific Prowler.

For anyone who is interested, here are the quiz answers.

The first pic shows Vampire F.3 N6885D, ex RCAF 17062 (foreground) and N6883D, ex RCAF 17071 (background). These two Vampires sat decaying at Orange County for years. 17062 has never really resurfaced and is said by the Registry to be stored at Mojave. 17071 is now displayed at the Reynolds museum in Alberta.

The second pic shows Vampire F.3 N6878D ex RCAF 17072. It was then with Tallmantz and later found its way to Pete Regina, then John Travolta, and now Lake Air. It delighted crowds at Oshkosh, among other events, as recently as this summer.

There were a handful of ex-RCAF Vamps floating around SoCal at one time. I think one derelict was donated to Planes of Fame, not to be confused with the ex-Swiss example they have.

When I was tire-high to a DC-3 'way back in the early '60's, I spent some time living in Ottawa with an aunt and uncle of mine while my youngest sister busied my mom with being born. While there, I remember vividly one day a very loud noise coming from outside and me, my aunt, and my five cousins dashed outside to see an entire squadron of Vamps passing overhead in formation just below the overcast; it was quite the sight.

The single-seat Vampire is one of the few jets I'd really like to fly (along with the CF-86 Mk. 6 Sabre and the A-4 Skyhawk); I've heard they're an absolute delight when it comes to handling. It's too bad somebody doesn't design a composite version of the little Vamp and stick a Williams turbojet in it; I'd bet they'd be amazing!

Is that a F4U's I see one in the center and one on the far right? Plus a P-51 on the left. I can't post pix, but have a couple of Aussie Vamps that were imported thru San Diego in 1971

There are actually three F4U/FGs in there....as well as a P-51....

Only had one Corsair when I worked there, but we had 18 B-25s. The only P-51 was the red racer.
