I don't have anything in my notes for Santa Barbara, so I am looking forward to other replies as well. I am currently working on the California portion of the museum locator. You can find that at...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#USA_CA

...It is obviously far from being complete, and is thus a work-in-progress. If you would like I can send you my California notes which is the basis for what will be on this page.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

A beautiful place in case you wanted to spend a day like normal people away from airplanes. John Montogomery from southern part of San Diego built and flew hang gliders as a boy about 15. There are some reports he preceded the Wright Brothers. He also flew in N. California, near Santa Clara no doubt about that, perhaps near S. B. also.

I recommend the Elephant Bar at the airport.

I remembered a museum in Santa Maria, about 1 hour north by car. I did a quick internet search and found this:

Pt. Magu is less than an hour south of SB.

I hope this helps.

Matt
