Anyone in the Omaha/Lincoln Nebraska area or within a short drive swing up to the Strategic Air and Space museum this Saturday. If you join you get to go on the 2nd Saturday tours. This month is the B 29 currently being restored and then the B 57. They do a great job and let you have great access to these pieces.

Get good pics, please. I have a previous engagement and will miss this go round.

That is one reason I miss living in Omaha/Stationed at Offutt AFB, is the new location!

It was such a dump when it was on our base and hardly anyone went, they have such a great facility there now! I really love the glass area, where you can see them restoring pieces too!

Your talking about Man O' War there right? I thought she was in retoration phase there? I could be wrong?

It is quite touching right now.

There are 3,000+ american flags on the grounds right now. There is one for every life lost on 9-11 in addition to the regular flags. Each of these memorial flags has a tag with a name and where the person was lost such as North Tower, South Tower etc.

It is breathtaking to see all the flags on the rolling grounds around the museum. Almost sick to miss the crawl through as I have waited nearly 4 years for the B 29 to come round in the rotation.

They seem to do a nice job on their restorations. It looks like the B-29 is in good hands...

Yes, the SAC Museum B29 is in restoration. It was parked outside, out back, when I was there July 16th and was not on public view. But a really nice museum volunteer escorted me outside to see it (from a bit of a distance). Nice Docents at the SAC Museum.

This weekend is a rare opportunity to view it (but I am working on a project in Providence, RI at the moment...

I attended my wifes class reunion just south of Omaha this past June. One of her classmates has been working for the SAC museum for many years. When I asked about the B-29, he said it had been moved out of the building so they could display the B-1 that was on loan. But, if I wanted to see it, just ask for a certain person (I forget his name now). So after viewing the displays in the museum, I went to the desk and asked for the person I was referred to. He took me out back stayed for a few minutes, then said he had some work to do inside and when I was done, just leave through the door he pointed out to me.

I took a few pictures and as soon as I get them hosted, I will post the links.
