I have been taking a look at the warbird registry to see how many flying spits there are in North America.

What's the largest amount of Spitfires put together at an airshow on this side of the pond? Are there any plans for a big gathering?

It looks like there's already a large number in flying condition, with a bunch more to take to the air soon!

Please, if anyone has more detailed information or corrections for the list I compiled, please post a reply.

Your listing for PL-344 is incorrect as well. PL-344 is registered to Tom Blair/ Southern Aircraft Leasing and is based in Kissimmee, FL not Bartow FL.

It will be returning from a major overhaul at Duxford by the end of the year.

Lone Star Flight Museum also has a Spitfire fuselage. I don't believe there are any current plans to do anything with it.

Has this Spitfire flown yet?


Am I lost here, or did this a/c come back to Europe some time ago?

In Duxford after some restoration work was done.



I think this plane is now in care with the CAF at Camarillo.



Not a flyer...under restoration in Quebec.

Evergreen probably considers Mk XVI TE356 a flyer
Is BL628 in the U.S. yet? It is going to Mr. Lewis in Texas

PS890 is now in France and no longer belongs to PoF and you forgot about Mk.XIV SM832 with Friedkin in Chino. I know NH749 is being operated by the CAF but is it still owned by Price/MoF? Lastly, VP441 is a Seafire 47 and not a XV.

There was a gathering of Spitfires in Scottsdale, AZ back in the '90s which saw 5 or 6 Spitfires present.

Probably does not count, but, we have one in the San Diego Aerospace Museum that was a flyer.

Jesse, are you sure? SL721 ex Woody and Chris Woods used to be at San Diego, is now in good hands with Mike Potter in Toronto. I thought the one now in the museum was a replica. I used ot live in Pacific Beach and enjoyed the very nice museum in Balboa Park. Did it move? What is there now? I learned to fly at Montgomery Field in 1979.

Well, we had 3 Spits and a Hurri at Geneseo this year, and might have had another if the Fighter Factory's example was not down for mx. They tried to have a Spit gathering at TOM a year ago, but only ended up with 2 Spits.

In the mid 1980's Woody parked up SL721 for a period at the San Diego Museum.

The current Spitfire at San Diego SL574 is of course the famous ex BBMF Spitfire that had an engine failure over central London and landed on a cricket pitch. There are still three 'dings' visible in the leading edge where it hit the stumps.

Six Spitfires pitched up at the 'Spitfire Reunion' in 1995 at Carefree and Phoenix Arizona. It was organised by Chris Woods. Unfortunately his own Spitfire went u/s shortly before the show.
