I stopped by the NASA hanger while at WOH and checked on the B-57. Yep it's still there. The plane was positioned cross ways inside the hanger.
With the wingspan I wonder if they have to dolly it out sideways or will it turn and pass through the doors. I've seen it sitting outside the hanger before but have never witnessed how they get it in and out...Tom

The other one is deployed to Afghanistan at the request of the Afghani Govt.

I wasn't aware NASA had two B-57's. I knew they had the one. I saw the story sometime back about a B-57 being deployed to Afganistan but I didn't know it was also based at Ellington...Tom

Yep, they are the last two WB-57s flying in the world. Both based at EFD.

The WB-57 stopped over at BIA about a month ago, I assume on it's way back from the mid-east. Quite a site to see sitting on the hammerhead first thing in the am.

Thanks for posting this... I had no idea what the plane was.
I was telling people that I thought it was a U2.
If I can find the terrible (taken at 4 AM inside the hangar) picture I have of it I will post it.
The one at Ellington had six triage stations set up very near its wings during the Medical Evacs from Katrina.
The CAP group helped unload patients from New Orleans Hospitals out of the various C130s and other ANG transports as they arrived on the ramp, day and night for 4 or 5 days.

I worked two of the most gratifying nights of my sordid existence and it was just so unreal to be doing the Medical thing with some of the most desparate (and grateful) people and look up and there's a high altitude wonder of modern (60s?) technology with NASA folks occassionally coming out to work on it... or at least check up on us.

Finally got the fil-um de-veloped! I tell ya, for a back-water airpatch BIA gets some interesting things every now and then! She seemed to be broke at this point in time. Too bad, Ken, that you couldn't have come up for this instead of a ratty old Citation!

I missed it while it was at BED a few years ago too!
I was told they stopped into MIT for a gear problem.

I did get to see the Proteus fly away once, it looked goofy in the air.

I was under the impression that the highly modified RB-57's were in storage and pickled. I do recall seeing one of these type of birds out at Pima several years ago. Didn't know that these were still in service. Nice shots.

IIRC one of these NASA a/c visited Oshkosh a couple of years back (relatively recently).

This AC was on its way home from a little recce work in the mid-east, if I have my facts straight. Glad you guy like the pics!
