The sites a little hard to navigate not speaking German mind you. I didn't see anything on N11MQ. I did see a bunch of YAKs inc a -11 but not "Czech Ride".

OK, so here's the ignorant question of the day.
The plane's in Germany and owned by Germans (I presume).
Why is it registered in the US. Seems a little strange. I just don't
see a lot of German registered planes flying around Oregon.

Good question Jack, especially as all their Yak-3 / -9 new-builds have been registered in Germany.

Maybe because the newly build had inspection by the JAA during the building process. Or maybe it is cheaper to insure it in the US.
It could also be that the JAA or the German government adds more restrictions to flying experimental aircraft under German registration.

edit: another reason could be that this one is ex-military and the newly built are not, rules could be stricter on this in Germany as they are in Holland.

Apparently there is some idiosyncracy with the registration systems in some european countries that make it difficult to transfer registrations, so they just leave it in the US registration.

I believe this is the same reason that the Dutch Connie at the Aviodrome in Lelystad still carries the US reg N749NL, and I think also that the Breitling Connie still carries its US reg .

N-registered aircraft also do not have to comply with European noise abatement regulations.

Various reasons to keep a US registration for an European owned and based aircraft:

Tax purpose, as the aircraft is registered to a trustee, the name of the owner is not released to the Local Tax people.
Lack of National Certificate of Airworthiness (Ex A-26 operated as a freighter from Antwerp, a while ago, she is now resting in pace at Brussels Air Museum). That's the reason why all European based Cirrus 22 remain on the US register.
Request of the Leasing company actually owning the aircraft.

Thats funny,
I had no Idea that there was one based near my house. I was sitting at my GF's Mothers house on a warm summer day and I heard a large round engine rolling down the nearby runway. I jumped up and out the door only to catch a silhouette far out on the horizon tha made we think just that, P-47. A few months later I was lighting the gas grille in the backyard and I heard it again. This time Steve had turned in our direction and went right over the backyard. Shannon ran to the window, asked if we should go take a ride. Off went the grille, off to the airport we went.
About a half hour later we watched him land, bounce it hard a couple of times.
We drove around to say hello, and he asked us if we came over to see what kind of damage he did on that rotten landing.
I asked him if he knew Dan McCue, he replied...
"My airplanes Lighter and Faster!"
N11MQ is an all metal airplane, the one near me is still fabric, hence the "Lighter".

So its not a P-47, its a 1830 powered Yak-11 with a B-24 Propeller.
That was at least 3-4 years ago, I heard him rolling down 16 on Saturday morning, early. He keeps it quiet, not really needing all the power that airplane has to offer. It sounds really good!
