I really need start carrying one with me everywhere. It seems when I don't I always end up missing out on an opportunity.

Case and point. A couple of weeks ago I was at the Waynesville, Ohio annual Saurkraut festival and overhead someone was flying their beautiful Stearman in blue and yellow U.S. Army scheme and there I was with no camera. The pilot flew over the festival all day taunting me.

And then this monday was the icing on the cake. My wife and I were were driving southbound on I-75 in down town Dayton and I notice a flatbed semi trailoring an beat-up F-16 fuselage. I was able to get right next to it and pace the trailor for a few miles but again I hadn't brought my camera.

from now on I'm going to make sure I always have a camera in the car with spare batteries.

Anyone else miss out on something because they didn't have a camera with them?

Also anyone know about a F-16 heading south somewhere? The only markings I saw were AFRES (reserves) mid fuselage. The tail had been removed so that was it.

I missed taking pictures of the Vickers Vimy when it was at the Canada Aviation Museum. I was on my way there for a meeting and it turned out the meeting was held in the storage hanger at the opposite end was the Vimy!!! I am an idiot!!! Now I don't leave the house going anywhere near a museum or airport without it with me.

I keep my old Nikon 995 in my work bag at all times. Ever since i upgraded to a D70s, the 995 has seen quite a bit more abuse....

One of my previous jobs took me past Willow Run on the way into work every day. It seemed like once a week I'd drive by and Roush would have "Old Crow" out, waiting to taxi out on the runway. I was late to work a few times waiting to watch that bird take off.

when I was in the Navy I had one on me at all times, after missing shots of an A-3 doing touch and go one day I vowed never to miss something like that again (it was 1996).

Now I generally do not have a camera on me. I really should get a nice "small" camera to carry on me at all times but the $$ is just not there right now for that.

My Pentax Option WP (5 MP) waterproof camera always travels with me - not perfect for scenic or long distance shots but still better than my mobile phone camera;

It came in handy for static a/c shots and museum details, while witnessing car accidents, and always is good when I take macro stuff of flowers, insects, or just for fun at a spontaneous party, etc.

I should have a camera that takes "good" pics with me all the time, but since I don't, I've found for information and general stuff, sometimes my cellphone camera works. And I can send the photo to someone who might be able to help identify something while I'm still there.
Not great images, but good for somethings.

Thankfully I have a camera phone now, should get something else because you never know. On October 29, 1999 David Price was at Chino flying the ME-109 and I got no pics and didn't get a chance to get any from the people that were there. Trips to Chino were every two weeks back then for lunch and I sure as heck should have known better than to go without a camera. Dumb!!!!!

I don't carry a camera with me unless I'm specifically going somewhere to take pictures. I don't like to leave any of my cameras sitting in my truck during the summer months. It gets mighty doggone hot in the D/FW area in the summer, and the temperature inside a closed-up vehicle can easily reach 150 degrees or more!

In a pinch, I can use my cell phone camera. The images aren't the greatest, but they're usually better than nothing. Plus, sometimes you can usea cell phone camera to take a shot "on the sly" without being noticed like you would be if you were holding a regular camera up to your face.

I used to carry a film camera a lot, not all the time, but now I have a digital that I carry all the time.

I take an old Sony digital camera with me when I head out to other airports. You just never know when either something cool will show up or you get to work on something cool. I also use it to take pictures of a specific part on an airplane to help with identifying some of our "stuff" out here in Midland.

I also use it (obviously) to keep track of any work I might be getting accomplished. Mainly 'cause I'll forget how to put it back together otherwise.

I'm with John H. My little camera phone can bail me out if I need a quick picture. The resolution is not bad either.

Buy some of those disposable cameras and keep one in your car -- they're cheap, nobody's gonna steal 'em, and they actually take decent pictures. Better than no picture at all!
Just use them up periodically, and put a new one in the car. They go bad after a while.

I think this year I will buy a smaller pocket camera during the day after thanksgiving sales.
The on I use now was an excellent deal for $149.00 (4mp,4x,4x) two years ago but its time to get something that will stow easier.

There have been a few occaisons that I had forgotten it, and a few that it was completely dead.
Now there is a new rechargeable in it and two types of spares. (Li, AA)
It is also in my truck or my trip bag that I take on the road.

Unfortunately, I used to carry a Pentax K1000 with a 300 zoom everywhere, but the digital is way too convenient, no more closeups.

A couple of weeks ago I was sent to Bangor, ME to work on a Lear 60 and in the hangar next to us were two Swiss PC-9s. I got those shots.
I also packed it into the work truck for a trip to Lawrence, MA, which is only 20 miles from home. That afternoon AO arrived for the weekend tour stop. I still play that video to satisfy my round engine cravings.

Camera phone as well. The are getting better some phones will come with 2.0 megapixels cameras.
