I just came across some pictures I took of Fyrtle Mrytle, at Travis AFB around 1980. At the time "Sentimental Journey" was there as well, and I remember seeing a piece of literature that said that the CAF had the only flying B-29 in the world. When I asked "what about that B-29?".

The reply was "what B-29?".

Anyone else have pics of FM? If anyone is interested I can see if I can get them scanned and post here.

Thanks

Here are some pictures of FiFi at the 1984 Airsho in Harlingen. She still has the paint from being in the movie "The Right Stuff" but the Fertile Mertile logo has been replaced with here real name. I think I have some with the F.M. logo somewhere, but it will take awhile to did them up.

I've brought up bringing that paint job back to FIFI on occasion, but only get mixed reviews. I sure do like it, but that'll be a discussion for later.

Hey what about the very first B-29's with the OD Green and gray paint! That would be different.

I'll will have to have the negatives developed. But; hope to have them in here in a week or so.

Bye the Bye, I was stationed at Hamilton ARMY Air Field where the shot "The Right Stuff". I made some extra money as a guard in the old hanger they were using.

There were a Total of Three B-29 fusalages there at the time. Just from the forward Bomb bay foward. I used to crawl around the main one. I always thought it was a shame that they did so much work to mock it up and then tore it apart again.

Those pics sure do look like Hamilton. And that Huey could have been from NAS Alameda. Though I have to wonder why. My unit was a Medivac unit ( 343rd Med Det HA) that was literally a hundred yards away. Maybe the red bird was more photogenic. One the other hand, no Huey would have been in on the original event.

They had a very large scale RC B-29 for most of the shots at Hamilton. Ironic that the real Fyrtle Mrytle was just 20 miles away and flyable at that time.

When I first saw Fertile Myrtle it was at the Oakland Airport in 1988. At that time, I believe she was no longer flying, and sat there until it was purchased by Weeks............
