well, the hunt for amelia continues again, the preverbial aviation needle in the haystack. this time brought on by a recent ebay listing of a diary from a former associated press reporter who was stationed on the coast guard cutter itasca, diligently noted earhart's final radio calls in his diary. james carey, the reporter, was covering the event. his relatives put the diary on auction recently, & supposedly their are new unrevealed facts from his diary entries, including previously ignored notes taken of a short wave radio distress call beginning with "this is amelia earhart". carey's diary stated the itasca crew was getting restless, while waiting at howland island 8 days. carey's diary was unknown up to last september when a typewritten copy appeared on ebay. a tighar member bought the item. the notes & diary were enough to generate a new expedition to find earhart & noonan. tighar's director ric gillespie states the diary contents are all circumstancial, but warrants another expedition. the group is in the process of raising more money for a new adventure in july. i will not offend any tighar members, as i know some are on wix, & their cause is noble to aviation history, but this gillespie seems to latch on to any scrap of crap, & always lay's his betting chips on 1 number of the rhoulette wheel. is he the carny of aviation history?? or a guy deemed a quack or shylock con man?? or is he a guy who's been misjudged & raked over the coals who derseves more credit than the uncountable bashings he's received?? i'll admit, i'd give my eye teeth to go on 1 of those expeditions, but i refuse to pass judgement on him, as so many others have till i have the facts of how his organization truelly operates.

Anybody know how much was paid for the diary on ebay?

I hate to say it but this sounds like just another wild goose chase.
