Well, having successfully moved my family to RAF Lakenheath in the UK, this US warbird nut is about to make one of my lifelong dream pilgrimages to the IWM at Duxford tomorrow.

What's beautiful is that Duxford is only about a 30 minute drive from my new home!

More tomorrow after I go and drool for a while.

Indeed...great place...been there twice myself in 2000/01, saw LOADS of great stuff....see if you can locate where the old Belgian hangar USED to be located that was blown up for the filming of 'Battle of Britain'....find the old Duxford BofB plotting room...check out the Land Warfare hall...So much to see and do over there....maybe you'll even get a reasonably warm day and there'll be some flying!

It's definately a cool place to go. I went there a couple of times when I was stationed at RAF Croughton from 86-89. Be sure you also get over to the RAF Museum at Hendon as well.

Randy, I'll be wandering around Duxford at some point during the afternoon myself. It's a great museum and best of all, it's not just full of planes that sit and gather dust, it's a hive of activity.

If you travel a further 30 minutes down the road from Duxford you'll find the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden. It's the home of some unique flying machines and it's well worth a visit.

The B-24 is probably the best you'll see anywhere...an awsome restoration...after having seen it outside a Lackland for years.

On my last visit, I went up in a Rapide for a brief flight, It was fun to fly from the historic field in a real piece of British aviation history.

Thirded; but go on a flying day as well. Shuttleworth on a non-flying day is like cold Pizza. You know what it is, but you aren't getting full value... ;)

Indeed.....seconded, thirded fourthed and fifthed....Shuttleworth, with its grass strip, Ag college, and sprawling complex is an amazing place..did both summer shows there the week after the DX shows....a great place to spend a summer evening but still one of the coldest summer nights I've ever spent outside! The local pub also serves a decent piece of Lasagna (!) and Spitfire ale....it used to be Richard Shuttleworth's local pub....forget its name...

This YANK is a 3 time veteran of Duxford, attended the May Air Displays in '98 '99 and 2005. It is a literal step back in time and I can't wait to go back.

Randy, any chance soon you'll be visiting Duxford again in another capacity...as a performer?

Just returned from my day at Dux, and all I can say is

WOW!!!

An incredible collection of aircraft and a great location there on the grass.

I also had the pleasure of meeting up with a couple WIXers who gave me a behind-the-ropes tour...thanks, Mike!!

Can't wait to make more visits during the shows next year.

Unknown...but the jet in that photo is from my new squadron, the 492nd (blue fin flash). Sure would love to do it!
