Very sad that Jerry has to fight another war, only this time I don't think he has much of a chance against his own goverment.

What an utter disgrace!!! I find it shocking that a man such as Jerry could be treated so unfairly, but I suppose when governments are involved any amount of shameful action isn't beyond expectation. Is anything being done to help him?

Geez, sounds like the same people that are running the U.S. Veteran's Affairs are running Canada's too. How very sad.

Couldn't agree more. So far I have setup the web-site about Jerry for the people to read about his history and his problems with the DVA. Jerry gets lots of e-mails from around the world in support.

The very sad thing is that this is happening to many Vet's here in Canada, I have had to pleasure of talking with a few. It just blows me away that the goverment would turn their back on the men that gave us the freedoms that we enjoy today over such a minimal amount of $$ I would bet that our goverment spends more on trips, meals etc than it would cost to care for these men in their golden years.

I guess you answered my next question about how Vet's. are treated in the US. Very upsetting that is the same their.

If anyone has any ideas to help, feel free to contact me and I can pass it on to Jerry.

Thanks Dave C

Dave,

Thanks for sharing this story. These "horror" stories of how countries treat their war veterans are truly sickening. :x When you think you've heard it all, you read stories like this and just shake your head.

My suggestion to Jerry and others trying to help him is to simply spread the word as much as possible. Try to get him some air-time on radio, newspaper articles, and even talk shows. I wonder if Canada has anything like Oprah??? I'd also get some lawmakers involved to shake things up within the DVA.

I thank my lucky stars that I've never had to deal with the Veteran's Administration (yet) after spending 9 years in the Army. However, I know many vets that deal with them on a regular basis and I have yet to hear one single positive experience. Cronyism is alive and well within all echelons of VA, with many managers caring more about their next promotion or evaluation vs. taking care of veterans. I've heard vets comment that the VA is a lot like an insurance company that refuses to pay up when you submit a claim. You can have all the documentation in the world and they'll still find a way to deny an increase in your disability rating. I guess it's not surprising though when you look at the cuts our lawmakers have made to the VA and veteran's program in general over the last 6 years.
