Saw this on Barnstormers. Thought somebody on the board might be interested in this little lot.

Cheers,
Richard

Richard,

I saw this listed late last week and pounced on it after Ed mentioning there was a lot of inquiries. Unfortunately, I'm not looking forward to the freight bill to ship it from California to the frozen wastelands of Wisconsin!

well done John! I am glad that it's going to the right home. I had you in mind when I posted this.

Cheers. Richard

Tom,

Yup...I got it! His asking price was one of those deals I just couldn't pass up. I haven't gotten an estimate on the freight costs yet but I would not be one bit surprised if the freight cost ends up being more than the parts.

I gave that some serious thought but with my work schedule there was no way I'd be able to find the time to cruise down there and pick the stuff up myself.

Are you building up a ball turret? How about posting a picture of your project?

Scott,

Once my ball turret project becomes a bit more"complete" I'd be happy to post pics. Unfortunately it's all just a bunch of scattered parts at this point. Actually I can't complain...I've been able to acquire a lot of internal parts for the turret. The big problem is trying to find the shell components which were usually melted down at the end of the war. These pieces are nearly impossible to find which is why I jumped on these parts so quickly.

Once the parts arrive I'll be sure to post some pics of my "project" to share with you guys. If anyone out there knows the whereabouts of a ball turret Azimuth End Bell Assembly (gearbox), I could sure use one!

John

Hey Tom...how'd you guess??? She hasn't seen the pile of stuff yet but when she does she'll just give me the look, shake her head, and ask me how much I paid for the "pile of junk" in her words. That's when I smile and say it's part of our father & son ball turret "bonding" project and that I got the stuff real cheap for like a $100 or something....bwaaa....haaa...haaa! Seriously....I could tell her the stack of parts was for an air conditioner and she wouldn't know the difference.

Rule #1 of warbird parts acquisition...never tell your spouse how much you paid!

Congrats on a lucky find! What's the story on the crash site where they were salvaged?

I'm not quite sure Chris...I'll ask Ed and see if he has any background on which B-24 it was and where it might've crashed.
