Scott,

Just a thought, but maybe in your spare time you could troll TCM or wherever these movies typically show up and have these surveys after the movies are aired. Frankly I can't remember enough details about each of these movies to be of any value to the discussion. I know that The Inspector posts alerts on these. Maybe he would be willing to keep an eye out for us. I DVR some of them and watch them when I have time.

Thanks!

BK

I saw it as a small kid and have enjoyed it many times as an adult. It has some good TBF detail that I like.

It is on Netflix if someone requires a refresher course.

I find this a pretty good film for its time, an entertaining and interesting story, great characters and good acting, and well written.

Am i right in thinking the story is based on the Battle of Midway? or is it the Battle of the Coral Sea? Or is there no particular battle it's based around? I might have to pull it off the shelf and watch again soon.

I found it interesting too that they discuss hydroponics and have a voice recorder onboard the ship, both pretty modern things back then. Harry Morgan stands out among the characetrs for me. Neat to see him when he was young like that.

It's about mid range as far as WW2 'beat the bad guys' tub thumpers go, gives you a chance to see Harry Morgan as a youngster and Richard Jaekel in what was either his first or second movie roll. I never was a fan of Don Ameche even if he did invent the telephone.
You got your full 35c @ the local BIJOU on Friday night. it's a good rainy Friday night watch.
It does give you a pretty good look @ SB2C's in operation during their carrier proving ops. My late father used to fall out of his chair laughing @ the 'carrier' or 'Battle Ship' interiors in those movies when they turned up on TV in the 1950's and their standard floor to ceiling three panel wooden interior doors.

Thats my primary source for a lot of these more obscure war movies. I have quite a few in my collection but sometimes it amazes me by how many there actually are.
