Hello everyone. Just wanted to give my fellow WIXers a heads up on 2 deHaviland Chipmunks that will be be for sale in the very near future. They are both owned by Purdue University in W. Lafayette, IN. WB750 (545PU) is undergoing an annual inspection & WK635 (546PU) is basically a mostly complete collection of parts. My boss, Brian Stirm, has been given a deadline to get them both offically for sale on or around June 1, 2009. I'm not sure, but since they technically state property, I think the method of sale will be sealed bid. If you have questions about the aircraft, you can contact Mr. Stirm at 765-494-6784 or email him at stirmb@purdue.edu We also have a a collection of spare parts that I assume will be divided between the 2 aircraft, but don't quote me on that. Pictures of both can be found on the registry. Thanks. -Todd |

What were the circumstances of Purdue obtaining these? |

WB750 was donated to the school in the early '90s, and WK635 was purchased at auction in Canada shortly after. The plan was to have both aircraft flying in standard catagory so they could be used for flight training. But due to lack of funds & time, only one was finished. The class is called "upset recovery/unusual attitudes" training. It was more like an introduction to aerobatics, but the insurance company doesn't like the word "aerobatics" ![]() Todd |

I'll keep this post updated as I obtain additional info. This post is for information only, please don't treat it as an official sales advertisement. I work for Purdue, but am not authorized to make any kind of deals. As I mentioned in my first post, these aircraft are not yet officially up for sale, but will be soon. I just wanted to give all you WIXers a heads up. Please direct questions to Mr. Stirm at the phone or email above. Thanks, Todd |

OK folks....Purdue had finally officially accepting bids for these A/C! Follow the link here: http://www.purdue.edu/surplus/ There's another link at the bottom of the page for the Aircraft Sales. There you'll find some contact info and a link to the actual bid sheet. I noticed the pictures don't seem to be working on the page, but both Chipmunks are listed on the registry with pics. The University is also selling a Cessna 182 and both King Air B200s I'm just posting this for you're information. Please use the contact infoo on the website if you have any questions, as I'm am not the authorized agent. I will say that I have personally worked on all these A/C, and I think our shop takes impeccable care of them. Just my 2 cents... ![]() Todd |
