For Pratt & Whitney R-985-B5 Wasp Jr. or R-1340 Wasp series engines. The sump plug drain valve assembly and a new gasket replaces the P&W PN 20126 plug on R-985-B5 and R-1340 engines. NOTE. When installing. do not over-tighten.

On R-1340 engines: install this plug into the forward drain sump along with an appropriate cowl access hole (if desired). For the R-985-B5 users. install the new plug in the aft sump drain location.

On cowled engines: cut a circular access hole I" diameter. in the lower cowl panel with the hole centerline lined up with centerline of the sump plug. This hole provides access for the valve key.
NOTE. T-6 owners that have an access door in the lower cowl assembly, take of) the front door to install valve key or cut access hole
After shutdown, screw the valve key into the replacement plug until you feel resistance: (DO NOT FORCE) the drain valve will now be fully open. This system is designed to eliminate oil seepage into the lower cylinders combustion chambers via the valve guides. The collected oil can be returned to the oil tank. This system will pay for itself in a short time.

For the T-6, SNJ, Harvard: a standard one gallon rectangular can. similar to a paint thinner can, can be used to collect the drained oil and will normally fit in the oil cooler scoop. Use the provided plug and clear PVC flexible tubing and cut a 1/2" hole in the cap for this. Extra washers are for spacers.

At normal operating temperatures, expect to retrieve warm rocker oil within ten to fifteen minutes if you install the system right after shutdown.

This system is both functional and very simple. As a result. it is reliable, safe, easy to install and operate. It does exactly what it is designed to do: eliminates, upon start-up, lower cylinder unburned oil being expelled out the exhaust stack due to an accumulation of rocker drain oil entering the combustion chambers during shutdown. Recommend you still pull the prop thru before start.

WARNING: Any mechanical device can kill you, so always use caution.
