i'm speaking as a citizen. no politics, or party membership issues. please please please i will not stir a beehive, please be civil in replies. just watched the world news, & saw the new prez flew from washington to virginia in air force 1. that's like me renting a limo to get a gallon of milk a 1/4 mile away. granted, i'd want to to check out the 1st bird too if i was in his shoes, but marine 1 the helicopter would have saved us all a few bucks. fiscal responsibility.

Why apologize? Stupid move in todays economic times. He shouldn't get any free passes anymore. He sits at the same desk Harry did.

Well, if Marine One got shot down at low altitude the military guys would never forgive him for not taking the big jet. I'm guessing it's more for security reasons than anything else.

With him around in the U.S. I'm sure he's at far greater danger than he would be in North Korea.

...then it'll really make you feel great to know the 2nd one was flown somewhere close by as well...as a back-up!

The exact distance the plane flew was 120 miles. Spending just for the heck of it.

For a head of state, time really is money (and vice versa). Someone's always doing those calculations on the behalf of the president - any president - whatever party or approach.

If they had gone in the helicopter they would have been there before AF1 got off the ground.

If I remember correctly the President does a number of short hops early in his administration in order to practice emergency procedures. They aren't the same as the ones you and I go through. I vaguely remember an argument about it between two neighbors who were part of the AF1 crew when I was in DC. I can't remember the specifics but it had to to with the football and switching communications off or something. Sorry, that';s all i remember unless you want me to tell you dirty AF1 stories.

It had to be related to the Johnson Administration, you know, the one before "W".

We usually know only what "they" want us to know. All the reasons for the flight may never become public info.
