I believe this country is totally out of control. Its getting to the point where guards with automatic weapons need to be placed in every shopping mall and every school. Will it ever end? Its so sad whats been going on and my thoughts go out to all the victim's families. These mass shootings are happening somewhere about every 10 days. Gun violence in this country is becoming a national embarassment.

The gun isn't what's initiating it.

It's the nut behind the wheel.

They just stated that the deceased shooter is an individual named Ryan Lanza of Conn.
ABC news says he also took out his own mother at the location.

There are a few listed on FB under this name.

As a very involved parent.....

This is just numbing

Note that most of these mass murders are happening where people aren't able to defend themselves...

Horrified, disturbed, saddened, sickened, and angered. I have nothing more to say. This is a sad, sad day.

yes. Five year olds need handguns as well, Ryan. :| Can we please avoid the stupids in this thread? It's tragedy enough without making it political.

Here in Connecticut we're reeling with questions, concerns, etc. We're immensely saddened by this tragic loss and for me (personally) I just can't fathom this. We've never had something such as this, so close to home, (like the next town over) and it's quite unnerving. I ask all of you who wish to start pointing fingers, to do it elsewhere. Right NOW is not the time or place. I understand this affects many us on multiple levels but please keep it respectable. Thank you.

And if the nut didn't have access to the gun(s)?

Never learn

Ask O.J. ..or Charlie Manson.

Seriously, it's easy for those of us (like myself) who are not sportsmen, gun owners or hunters to say such things and feed the anti-gun hysteria.
But next time, it might be something you care about...warbirds, old aircraft, air races etc.
I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way when they haer about a general aviation or warbird death ("Why do those people insist on flying when we have airliners..all they're doing is buring gas and causing pollution..") or particularly the recent Reno crash.

At the risk of stretching the point, let's remember these words by Niemöller:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

In these days of overreaching political correctness, unless you're a heatly eating vegan who uses mass transit and whose hobby is is carbon neutral....sooner or later somkeone will say the same about you and your hobby.

Guys, really. Twenty children and six teachers were murdered today and you're arguing politics. Can we please just leave it alone and mourn the loss of innocence for once instead of making bones?

I am almost speechless. I work at a middle school in special ed here in CT and it was just an awful, awful day today. Lots of questions and emotions. It's another sad day for the United States.

Ryan, I believe the only state in the union that does not allow carry/conceal is Illinois. I just heard this a couple of days ago when Illinois' ban on carry/conceal was declared unconstitutional.
