Latest tv poll says 70% in US now oppose Bush on the war. We have now have more killed than in 9-11 and have been in it longer than WWII. It struck me that less than 30%(some undecided) is about the same as those that stiil smoke. We can have consideration for soldiers despite our view on the war. Does anyone an address to send Christmas cards to troops in Afgan or Iraq; and can you send packages? If so what is the best kind of stuuf to send? It might make a small difference to some kid a long way from home.

At Portland Int. Airport there's 3 semi trailers of goodies ready to go to Afganistan for the troops. But, under law during wartime (!) the miltary can't ship compfort items. So the group which gathered these items is trying to raise $30,000 to ship them themselves.

That's strange, my folks sent care packages every week to my younger brother who is an Army Captain while he was serving in Iraq. He received every one of them and distributed them to he troops. So I wonder why this stuff can't be shipped.

Were not talking mailing a package.
Were talking big shipping containers that the military won't or can't
transport because there considered personal comfort items.

Received this a few days ago:
"Something cool that Xerox is doing
If you go to this web site,
www.letssaythanks.com , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! Despite how you feel the war, our troops need our support!
This is a great site - Please send a card.
It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?
Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them..."

The hallmark idea seems worth doing,if a little impersonal. I read,USA Today I think, that a number of soldiers did not get any mail from home. That would be extra tough at Christmas in a dangerous foreign land. I wasn't thinking of a big shipment like Jack mentioned, just a personal letter or a small gift and was hoping someone might have such a mailing address.

If all else fails, contact your local guard or reserve unit and see if you can get a name or names. Also the American Legion and the VFW have people that they send care packs to. It's too bad, but, we can't accept cards addressed to "Any Soldier/Sailor/Airman/Marine" at the Post Office anymore. Not for a couple of years anyway. That was a nice program.
