Web Service Providers

Tue Dec 26, 2006 11:18 am

My account (www.aerialvisuals.ca) with Netfirms is due for renewal in April. I would like to switch to another provider before then. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good provider. I am sick of Netfirms. I wouldn't suggest anyone use that service.

Mike,

I use crosswinds.net. They seem to be a "mom and pop" provider (and Canadian by the way), but the service is generally reliable. They have occasional issues but they correct them when alerted. They were responsive the time or two I contacted them. Of course, I have a pure hobby site and don't require 99.9999% uptime nor do I require special features. I chose a mid "Pro" option to get the memory and bandwith I wanted.

You might want to review their website architecture requirements before making a commitment. For instance, the webpage urls should be lower case.

Just an option for you to consider. I'm satisfied, but have no experience with others.

I'm going to be looking for a WSP to start a site to host the Kamm photo collection in the new year. Anyone has any tips, I'd be interested too.

we've been using realwebhost.net, and have been reasonably happy. Of course, last year they decided the best time to replace a server that had been failing for a couple weeks was the day before thunder (the busiest day of the year web traffic wise)...but they've been acceptably average.

I use Lunar Webpages, and they've been good so far, only problem I have is trying to update the message boards, which I seem to destroy each time I try, such as now, since I don't know what I'm doing :minigun: .

I've been using Website Source for awhile now and I found it to be a very good service. All services have issues and it's how they respond to them that sets them apart. Website Source has been very good in this regard.

Hi Mike,

I've used www.easyhosting.com out Ontario for several years. They offer good support with a stable platform, the only down time I ever had was when there was the blackout a few years back. As with most providers, the more you spend on hosting, the more you can do but their rates are fairly resonable.
