Any Civil War Collectors or Buffs Here?

Wed Jun 13, 2007 3:51 pm

I was given this several years ago and was told it was a Civil War flask. I assumed that is was a reproduction and a powder flask. While clearing out some of the junk I’ve collected over the years took a closer look at this. It appears to be a Union Whiskey Canteen. Can anyone tell me if it is real or a reproduction? Is it worth anything?

Found out a bit more by posting this same question on a few boards.

The GAR is a post Civil War Org, sounds like the VFW of today, but only for Civil War Vets.

This was one of those things sold, given... to those vets. Very interesting to search into the history of objects like this. I need to get a hold of my Dad and see if he remembers where it came from. I think I got it from him.
