Help me choose a DVD player/recorder

Mon Jul 30, 2007 7:50 pm

My VCR, which is a VHS tape recorder/player and DVD player combo, has just gone FUBAR. If any of youse troops can help me with info on a good replacement, I appreciate it. I want one that'll record stuff off the TV but onto a DVD instead of a tape. It, obviously, has to also play DVDs (DUH!) If it also has VHS capability, that's OK but not a requirement.
I'm willing to pay for quality.

Check out the Sony model RDR-VX555
It has HDMI output and lots of other features.
Good luck

I ditto the Sony vote. Sony makes excellent products. Panasonic is my next favorite DVD reader/burner combo.

I can't look into your wallet but have you thought about one that has a hard drive as well? It's a lot easier because you can just press record whenever you want without having to look for a empty DVD first. I don't have one but my gf's father does.
I download most of the things I like to watch from Usenet, there is not much good on TV here, or it has already been on TV in the US.

I have had a DVD recorder for about three years now. It happens to be a Panasonic. No matter which brand you pick, DVD recorders are awesome. I wish I had bought one with a hard drive in it, so keep that in mind.

Catherine and I recently bought a Sony TV and DVD carousel player. Out surround system is Sony. I'll vote for Sony. They make good products.
