Hi everyone,
for a while I've known that they've been planning a remake of the incredible 1951 movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" that starred Michael Rennie. In the re-make Keanu Reeves will be playing the main character "Klaatu."
As it turns out, while I was at the Boundary Bay Airport for a lesson there were tons of movie trucks, crew, etc, etc and I quickly learned that that's the very film they were making.
They appeared to be using the last remaining big WWII hangar on the airport as their set.
I can't wait to see the remake since I've seen the original and want to see how they compare. I really hope they do a good job of it. The Day the Earth Stood Still is such a great story and is very relevant to issues facing our planet today. I suggest watching the original.
Cheers,
David

I imagine the new one will be very different. 2008 audiences may not be quite as receptive to preachy moralizing from superior visitors as 1951 audiences were.

I bet the cut that part and add some sex, a few explosions or both to keep us watching.

I watch it every time it comes on.

Hope the remake is good.

I haven't seen a remake yet that was anywhere close to being as good as the original. Seems like the industry can't bring itself to finding good and produceable stories these days and ones that are even somewhat family friendly. Pixar is the one exception that I see though.

Keanu is in it. It's a flop before it even hits post production.

Not so fast. Keanu is playing Klaatu. If anyone can pull off being a bland, emotionless alien, it's him.

While we're on the subject of 50's Sci Fi, does anyone here remember the Ray Harryhausen classic "EARTH vs. THE FLYING SAUCERS" ?
There is a scene in the movie that I always wondered about. In it a saucer shoots down 2 of 3 Curtiss Helldivers. The footage was obviously of a real 40's era mid air collision (I always thought the scene in poor taste) and I wondered about the story behind it.
Well you can find out about anything on the web nowadays!

Maybe they should substitute Al Gore for Keanu?
