Contrails

Mon Jan 28, 2008 12:22 am

Different from the time when I could not take a picture of the strange contrails that I saw in Idaho, this time, Jan09 in Katy, TX I was able to take a shot of these:

No idea what airplane made them.

I almost had a heart attack when I shot this picture; I just realized it was, because I was not chilling out and enjoying life! Hahahahahahah!!! : )

The contrails might be from that super double secret airplane the Air Force has that caused the strange lights over Brownwood Texas last week, searching for the Dublin, Texas, Dr. Pepper bottling plant. See, I'm smart and figured it out.... :D

Your theory shoots down my theory: Two Cessna 150s flying a tight formation at "20,000 ft" would also leave such a contrail. Guess I will have to go back to my conspiracy theories 101 book. : )

Although b29flteng's theory is acceptable, I still stick with Tulio’s theory, though I might add one thing: they were flying formation, but the other guy was drunk. :D

What´s so difficult about this one????. The pilot had hiccups, that´s it !!!!!!!!

He may have been doing whifferdills, they make a pilot look like he's drunk.

Well, that looks to me to be like some sort of vortex action working on the contrail. Wonder if some kind of wind condition, or special wingtips or control surface was being tested.

I still believe that the pilot with hiccups was drunk, doing whifferdills inside an UFO... or MAYBE, he was all that but was flying formation with an UFO he thought was his buddy from back home. But everything was ok because he was chilling out and enjoying life!!!

But what about the Dr. Pepper?

Looks like the wing-tip vortices are acting on the engines contrails. The vortices generally move out and down relative to the wing but a just right directionally crosswind at altitude will cause this effect. The other wingtip vortex stays out of the contrail because this same crosswind component moves it farther away from the contrail on that side, IMHO.

These are the same vortices that will spoil your day if landing too close behind a 'Heavy" or a B-757. But they're there on all aircraft; just not as noticable from a smaller aircraft like a 727, etc.

I've seen the same vortices in contrails, but not often.
