I usually don't make posts like this, but I am a bit beside myself at the moment...

Not too many moments ago I watched this poor little girl pass on... in the past with the other kids it was a simple matter of taking that last ride to the vet's for what was hopefully a peaceful end. Sad, yes. But a quick, easy, peaceful end to their suffering.

Not so this time... I am so ashamed that I could only stand by feeling helpless and do nothing for her but try to offer some feeble comfort...

I'm sorry, but I have to let this out somewhere...

Know the feeling too well. We had one that ended up having to have some major surgery....got him past that and on the road to recover then got slammed by feline distemper running through our bunch. Got him over it and as my wife and boys were at the vet to pick him up, he had a heart attack and stroke on the table as the staff were brushing him and petting him prior to bringing him out. It has been hard on us, especially losing three to F.D. within three weeks. It was really hard on the vet and the staff too....not hard to tell when the vet, who is 6'5" and 300+ is crying as he has to tell them.

There's a lot of pet lovers on wix myself included. So we understand what it's like to lose one. When you don't have kids, they are your kids! One of our cats had kittens and we were able to find them good homes. But Kira died when our house burned down last April. that was very hard on my wife. Our 2nd cat is 16 and ready to go on also

Ellen and I send our condolences.

It never gets easier, and we have two very old, very good dogs that won't be with us much longer. Those who have pets all feel for you right now, and we'll keep you in our thoughts.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know exactly what you're going through.

About 7 years ago our cat Sylvester was clearly sick but we couldn't get our gumption up to take him to the vet. Unfortunately he passed away overnight. I remember I couldn't walkthrough the garage for about a week after that.

My dad actually got him from the shelter and was actually going to be put down if no one adopted him so my dad was able to save him. Luckily we still have our other cat Mika Ellen who is 10 right now.

One of our cats died a couple years ago out of the blue. He was 11. He fell off the couch and we rushed him to the emergency vet but it was too late. They think he had heart failure. The only good thing to come out of it was the personality of our other cat changed for the better. He became much more social and affectionate than before.

That's tough. Sounds like it didn't go well, either. Sorry to hear that.

Maybe try to look on the bright side of the good times you shared, and the quality of life you were able to give Kit-Kat.

We got our dog from the rescue shelter a year ago, and he's great. On top of that we regard every day as a bonus, as most of them don't find homes and are put down.

That's most affirm. I'm sorry for your loss Steve. People who don't own pets may not understand how close they become in our lives. When they are sick we feel the same concern as we would for any member of the family.

When they're gone, the emptiness is there as well. With time, the memories will be more sweet instead of bitter. Until that time, carry on as best you can.

The hardest thing about owning pets is losing them. I am sorry for your loss. I have been around animals all my life and it is never easy to say goodbye. I lost a puppy a couple of years ago and it was awful. Still don't like to think about it. Just try to remember the good times. They are part of your family. Judging by the comments you have received , it is clear many people think the same. To me , it is one of the signs of a good person.

I'm so sorry, Steve. I know what you're going through.......The hardest thing I've ever had to do was have my airport-adoptee Phantom put down. I know it was the right decision since he was suffering from congestive heart failure, but it didn't make it any easier at the time. Just think about what a good life you gave your Kit and how many times she made you smile -- it helps........

BTW, I swore I'd never have another one, but 2 months later, I was at the local shelter adopting Bo the tail-less wonder -- I'm glad I did, since he too has brought a bunch of happiness into my life!
